A required archaeological assessment of the 247 acres for Kohler’s controversial golf course project was prepared by Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group and given to the DNR. The review indicates the discovery of more than 25,000 prehistoric and historic remnants of past inhabitants from 8000 BC forward spread across the 247-acre wooded, wetland and dune-rich site. The Army Corp of Engineer’s review and the consultant's report recommended National Register of Historic Places status for 195 of those acres.
We are shocked by the special treatment Kohler appears to be getting from the WDNR and the Army Corps of Engineers. The WDNR sat on this review for many months and without any application on file from the Kohler Company, sent it to the Army Corp of Engineers for review. This is amazing considering there are ZERO applications, ZERO permits and no golf course site plan. This is unprecedented.
We ask the WDNR and Federal agencies to stop working as Kohler Company's private project manager. DNR and ACE salaries have been paid by citizens for 5 years while Kohler works to smooth the way for a project in the Town of Wilson. Even the Town of Wilson has no completed Conditional Use Permit application and has had to spend $13000 in fees just talking to Kohler. Stop spending taxpayer dollars to review a project without completed applications. The blatant show of favoritism must stop.
