As the Wingecarribee Shire Council and the Elizabeth Street Action Group presses forward to try to get historically and architecturally significant property Karingal, 26 Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale listed on the State Heritage List to preserve its precious place in Moss Vale & the Southern Highlands, we have hit a snag.
The owner/developer is appealing to the NSW Land & Environment Court. The case will be heard on May 11 in an attempt to circumvent the local community's wishes and overturn the Interim Heritage Order imposed on Karingal by the council, achieved with the help of our local petition which was signed by more than 1000 members of our community.
So, what can we do? We can get busy and try to make our voices heard in Macquarie Street.
As one of Karingal's supporters, we are asking you to please email NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts and our local State Member Wendy Tuckerman to let our thoughts known .... that as a community we value our past as encapsulated in Karingal and are fighting to help retain the character and historical essence of Moss Vale & the Southern Highlands.
