Traffic light on Baker and Cedar in Manhattan IL

The Issue

 

The Will County Coroner releasing the name of the man killed in yesterday’s crash in Manhattan. Forty-nine year old (name blurred for my own privacy) from New Lenox was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. at Cedar Road and Baker Road. (name) was the driver of a pickup truck that collided with semi-tractor trailer.

The fatal crash kept Cedar and Baker closed for hours. The driver of the semi truck was not injured. The Manhattan police department and the Will County Sheriff’s are investigating. The police department is looking to speak with any witnesses to the crash. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday, February 20th.

The death of James M. Kopec a 52 year old resident of Manhattan, IL was pronounced deceased July 3, 2021 at 0943 hrs. at Silver Cross Hospital Emergency Room in New Lenox, IL. Mr. Kopec appeared to be the driver of a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle crash that occurred on July 3rd 2021, near the intersection of S. Cedar Road and W. Baker Road, Manhattan, IL. The Will County Sherriff Police are investigating the incident. An autopsy was performed today, July 4, 2021 revealing multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle collision. The cause and manner of death is pending the outcome of police, autopsy and toxicological reports.

The death of Clifford Sales, a 47 year old resident of Manhattan, IL was pronounced deceased July 3, 2021 at 0951 hrs. at Silver Cross Hospital Emergency Room in New Lenox, IL. Mr. Sales appeared to be the driver of a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle crash that occurred on July 3rd 2021, near the intersection of S. Cedar Road and W. Baker Road, Manhattan, IL. The Will County Sherriff Police are investigation the incident. An autopsy was performed today, July 4, 2021, revealing multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle collision. The cause and manner of death is pending the outcome of police, autopsy and toxicological reports. 

These are not the only accidents on the intersection. Many people speed and ignore the stop sign that is already there. It’s time to do something about it.
