Widen Golden Ears Way!
The Issue
Maple Ridge is a city with more than 90,000 residents, no skytrain system, and it lacks employment opportunities and commercial space.
Since the Golden Ears tolls were removed, traffic congestion on Golden Ears Way has been out of control. Maple Ridge has two main routes - Lougheed Hwy and the Golden Ears Bridge. FOUR LANES MERGE INTO ONE LANE - two lanes from Lougheed Hwy and two lanes from the Golden Ears Bridge, causing major traffic delays, unnecessary pollution, and resident frustration daily.
The City blames Translink because they own the bridge and Golden Ears Way, Translink even proudly displays their name on the Golden Ears signs. Maple Ridge is part of Metro Vancouver so we fund Translink projects, yet we see little to none of those funds spent in our community.
We have been complaining since the tolls were removed in 2017, and Translink said they would be monitoring our traffic (a few links below). According to StatsCan, our population has increased 10% since then. And all that has changed is Translink gave us a B-line bus!
There is more than enough land available to finally give us two lanes each way! It seems our City either won't advocate for us or is doing a horrible job of it, so here I go. Enough is enough!! Please sign and share for support. Maybe something will happen...

This article warns of increasing semis with the toll removal which most definitely happened - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/expect-more-semi-trucks-on-port-mann-golden-ears-due-to-toll-removal-1.4272918
