

Why We Need to Stop "Reading" About AI and Start Building It

Are We Learning AI, or Just Memorizing It? It’s Time for a Change.
If you are a student, a parent, or just someone who cares about the future of education, you have probably noticed a massive disconnect in how we teach technology. We are talking about Artificial Intelligence—the most exciting, fast-paced, and world-changing tech on the planet right now.
But if you open a CBSE Class 9 or 10 AI textbook, you would never know it. Somehow, the curriculum has managed to make the most dynamic subject in the world feel completely boring.
Right now, students are being fed plain, repetitive theory. There is no real knowledge being shared, only "bookish" knowledge. We are expecting students to learn about a highly practical, hands-on industry by just reading about it. It is like trying to teach someone how to swim by making them read a manual and never letting them touch the water.
What is the real problem? Because the material is purely theoretical, students are doing what they always do to survive the system: they are memorizing. You can currently get full marks in an AI exam without having any real understanding of how AI actually works, how it is built, or how it is used in the real world. That completely defeats the purpose of teaching this subject in the first place.
What we actually need: We don't need more repetitive filler. We need a curriculum that actually prepares us for the future. Here is what this petition is demanding from the education board:
- Real-Life Uses, Not Just Theory: We want to learn how AI powers the things we use every day, and we want hands-on projects that make the subject genuinely exciting.
- Industry-Ready Skills: The curriculum should focus on the actual tools, concepts, and problem-solving skills that the tech industry values today.
- A Centralized, High-Quality Book: We need one well-designed, central textbook that focuses on practical application rather than scattered, text-heavy chapters.
Empowered Teachers and Real Tech Tools: We cannot learn practical AI without educators who are adequately trained in modern technologies. Furthermore, CBSE must actively promote hands-on hardware and software integration. Students should be taught how to navigate professional coding environments like Visual Studio Code, how to create computer vision applications using OpenCV, and how to bring their AI models to the physical world through hands-on ESP32 and Raspberry Pi projects.
Exercises That Test Brainpower, Not Memory: Practice exercises should be logic-based puzzles and practical challenges. A student shouldn't be able to just memorize a paragraph, copy it down, and score 100%.
Why your signature matters: We have the opportunity to empower a whole generation of students to be innovators, creators, and problem-solvers. But if we don't speak up, AI class will just become another period of cramming definitions.
We need to tell the board that we want an education that prepares us for the real world. Let’s demand an AI curriculum that is actually intelligent.
