Thanks to all who have signed this petition.
We all know that Ian Thomas was starting to do a good job and that he was a good role model particularly for black youth.
Damien Egan pushed Ian out. We don't know for sure whether it was because Ian was investigating corruption in the council,
because he was black
or because he wanted a council that really worked for the people and not for the developers and bankers who have bled Lewisham dry over the past 17 years with their unaffordable housing schemes and PFI scams for new schools, pools and housing repairs.
What we do know is that Damien Egan refuses to answer the questions.
You can help get rid of this corrupt system!
The Bring Back Democracy campaign needs 10,000 signatures on paper petitions to trigger a vote on abolishing this system in which one person (the mayor) has all the power. It aims to share power among all the councillors.
Send an email to help@BringBackDemocracy.org.uk for a copy of the petition to print out and get your friends, neighbours and family to sign the paper petition.
If you are free on Wednesday 28th November come to the council meeting at the Civic Suite, Catford, 7.30pm and join us in the public gallery when we ask Damien Egan some questions which he has to answer about why Ian Thomas was sacked, why he broke his promises on council housing and why he wants to cut essential services instead of investing in our young people, helping them to find jobs and homes. The money is there if he stops paying the bankers for their loan-shark PFI contracts
