Aggiornamento sulla petizioneWhittier Neighbors Against Seattle Upzoning ProposalAction Needed - Whittier Rezoning August Update

Dear Neighbors,

On July 1, members of our group met with Councilmember Dan Strauss to follow up on community concerns about the proposed Whittier Neighborhood Center and associated zoning changes. We raised ideas for directing density to more appropriate, less impactful locations, but Councilmember Strauss continues to support the current proposed location— which includes a few blocks east and west of 15th Ave NW between NW 77th St and NW 65th St. (Scroll down to see Whittier map at tinyurl.com/4kwrn42w.)

What You Can Do

🔹 Attend August 7 Town Hall hosted by Councilmember Strauss
🕔 Thursday, August 7 | 5:30–7:30 PM
📍 Green Lake Community Center, 7201 East Green Lake Dr N
A strong turnout and thoughtful questions show how many in our neighborhood are concerned about the proposed Neighborhood Center and upzone. If the room is full, gathering outside sends a message, too. More info at tinyurl.com/yh5xse62.

🔹 Email City Leaders Now
Time is short — the City Council committee is finalizing its recommendations for the One Seattle Plan and Neighborhood Centers, with a final vote expected in September.
Please send a respectful email to:
📧 council@seattle.gov
📧 dan.strauss@seattle.gov
📧 bruce.harrell@seattle.gov
Even if you've written before, consider sending a follow-up. It can be brief. An ongoing, large volume of messages makes a difference. Visit friendsofwhittierheights.org for talking points if needed.

🔹 Save the Date: Final Public Hearing on September 12
There will be one last chance for public comment before the council committee votes on the One Seattle Plan and location/boundaries of the Neighborhood Centers. (Final zoning decisions come in 2026.) Expect a virtual session at 9:30 a.m., and in-person session at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall. More details coming soon.

🔹 Don’t forget to vote in the primary on Tuesday, August 5!

Several important city positions are on the ballot — your vote can influence key decisions that affect our community.

Thank you for staying involved and helping shape the future of our neighborhood. Share this email with your neighbors and encourage them to join the Friends of Whittier Heights mailing list by clicking the “subscribe” button on our website.
