Whittier NeighborsWA, United States
Jun 9, 2025

Over 100 people attended the community meeting hosted by Friends of Whittier Heights on May 22, 2025! Thank you to everyone who showed up and made the meeting a success. All presentation slides from the meeting are available on our website:

Friendsofwhittierheights.org.

Also available on the website is a revised map of the proposed Whittier Neighborhood Center boundaries that the city surprised us with during the meeting. The revised map extends the proposed Center boundaries down to NW 65th Street while making a few minor changes to the eastern and western boundaries.

Next Steps / Call to Action

Share this email with your neighbors and encourage them to join the Friends of Whittier Heights mailing list by clicking the “subscribe” button on our website.

Plan to attend the June 18 Town Hall meeting hosted by Councilmember Strauss.  5:30-7:30 at the Magnolia Library.  RSVP at bit.ly/strausstownhall.  A large turnout makes a strong statement about neighborhood opposition to the planned upzone.  If you don’t RSVP, show up anyway.  It is a public meeting.

Make your voice heard by emailing City Council Members including: Council Member Dan Strauss, At Large Council Members Sara Nelson and Alexis Mercedes Rinck, as well as Mayor Bruce Harrell. Messages can be brief (a few sentences expressing your thoughts about the impact of this plan on our neighborhood). If you have already sent messages, now is a good time to send another prior to the upcoming June 23 public hearing.

Join us at the critical Seattle City Council Public Hearing on June 23rd to demonstrate concerns over the One Seattle Growth Plan and proposed Neighborhood Centers. There will be two public comment opportunities that day - a remote (Zoom) public comment session in the morning at 9:30am, and an in-person session at City Hall in the afternoon. The exact start time for the afternoon session and the registration windows for both the morning and afternoon sessions are not yet available; those will be available on the council committee website soon:  https://www.seattle.gov/council/issues/2025-comprehensive-plan  We will also post details on our website when that information is available.
