We're continuing to gain signatures, however they have slowed down a bit. Please continue to share this link and gain exposure about this horrible injustice. We have recently learned more than ever about Pig Wrestling in Whitley County and surrounding areas. Kyle Bailey is a "pig promoter" who lives in Noble Co (and is also their county fair president), who raises pigs for the sole purpose of "wrestling" with humans. This is sick! It was always our assumption that the pigs used at these events were local and brought to the fair by the 4H participants. We have learned that the pigs used are pigs that do this MULTIPLE times in their lives before they go off to slaughter. This really brings a whole new light to this petition. This event really is 100% about the money raised. We already know that the treatment of these animals goes directly against 4H values, but now we also know that they are being raised for this sole purpose, not for 4H education as previously portrayed. Frank Gray's editorial in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette skirted all of the issues. This is NOT a longstanding tradition in Whitley County. This will be the 4th year. He says that it bothers him that our petition has signatures from all over the world, not just locally. Animal welfare is an issue cared about by people all over the world. And we have opened the eyes of the world that this actually happens. Frank missed the boat on this article. You can read Frank Gray's opinion here: http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/frank-gray/Whitley-fair-wrestles-with-4-H-tradition-6750163 We also gained a bit of exposure on the local news, Indiana's News Center. You can watch the clip here: http://www.21alive.com/nbc33/Concerns-growing-over-pig-wrestling-competition-during-Whitley-County-4H-Fair-304485561.html You'll see that our side was not represented, however, I feel that fair board president's response actually HELPS our case! It doesn't matter how the animal is raised when it's poked, prodded, antagonized, tail & ears pulled, body slammed and choked multiple times. Especially when that is done in the name of supposed "family fun & entertainment" Thanks and keep fighting the GOOD fight! And thank you for always being classy with your comments representing our side of the issue. <3
