Over 400 petitioners in 4 days. It's clear that the Huntsville community disapproves of the actions of the leadership of the church. It is not necessarily the decision itself that the people of Huntsville disagree with, but instead the choice to close the daycare program in such a shockingly swift manner without regard for the welfare of the staff and children.
Yes, it is true the staff are unable to collect unemployment and will receive no severance pay. It is also true that many of the children remain on waiting lists and that some parents are being forced to make hard decisions, like whether or not they can continue in their career without childcare.
It is important to circulate this petition, as we continue to pray that the church reconsiders the timeline and manner in which they dissolve the daycare program. We hope that the leadership can agree that giving the families and staff more time, and dare I ask aide, is the right thing, the decent thing, the human thing, and the Christian thing to do.
You have done a great deed so far by signing this petition, and if you have not yet done so, I strongly encourage you to think about it! You can help us. If you love your daycare program, and if you love your church, go to the leadership. Ask them. "What are we doing to help Whitesburg Baptist Daycare?" The families and staff thank you.
