Where Is Warisheh Moradi?

The Issue

Urgent call on the situation of Warisheh Moradi, who has been subjected to forced disappearance by the Islamic Republic of Iran:

Dear friends,

Warisheh Moradi, a women’s rights activist and a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women’s Society (KJAR), has been subjected to forced disappearance. She was abducted on August 1, 2023, near the city of Sanandaj by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and taken to an unknown location.

Since her abduction, and despite continuous follow-up with her family and relatives and with the security institutions of the Iranian regime, no information has been obtained about her health status and whereabouts. This lack of information has created a wave of concern not only for the family but also for public opinion in Kurdistan and for many organizations and active women in Iran.

At the time of her abduction, Warisheh Moradi was engaged in political activities and organizing women secretly in Iran. Her activities infuriated the Islamic Republic of Iran. They often target freedom-seeking women. This misogynistic and theocratic regime acts deliberately and systematically to eliminate the will of women, especially by engaging in forced disappearances and applying all kinds of mental and physical torture, especially in this contemporary period when women like Warisheh play a central role in the revolutionary movement of Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (women, life, freedom) in Kurdistan and Iran.

Therefore, we, as a group of political, civil, and women's activists in Kurdistan and Iran, announce a campaign called "Where is Warisheh Moradi? Freedom for Warisheh Moradi", to both condemn the forced disappearance of this active woman and to find out about her fate and health. We also declare that this campaign continue until the release of this political and women’s rights activist.

In this regard, we appeal to all international bodies, the European Parliament, the United Nations Human Rights Council, The Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED), The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Amnesty International, The Commission on the Status of Women, the UN Fact-Finding Iran, the Red Cross, and parliaments and parties at the international level, to pressure the Iranian government to take immediate and appropriate measures regarding the fate of Warisheh Moradi and other political prisoners in Kurdistan and Iran.

We also demand all organizations, political and civil activists to support and join this campaign by engaging in various activities so that we all can put pressure on the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran to force it to answer regarding the situation of Warisheh Moradi. Our experience reminds us that our actions matter and have an impact. Our actions and voices together can put pressure on the Iranian regime.

Time is crucial. Tomorrow might be too late! So, let’s be the voice of Warisheh today. To be the voice of Warisheh Moradi, please sign and share the petition.
