Urgent: In a few hours, the third detention court hearing will take place. Despite two previous rulings granting Dr. Ko bail with restrictions, the prosecutor has repeatedly appealed without presenting any substantive evidence or justification.

This time, if the judge yields to pressure from the High Court or other hidden forces, Dr. Ko may face a politically motivated decision to return him to detention.

Dr. Ko has already endured four months in detention. After reaching the four-month detention deadline, he was granted bail, only to face another detention hearing almost immediately—barely a day after his release. During his second release on bail, he was subjected to even stricter conditions, including wearing an ankle monitor, a measure typically reserved for violent offenders. Now, he faces yet another detention hearing.

To demonstrate his goodwill and reduce political pressure, Dr. Ko even stepped down as the leader of Taiwan’s third-largest political party. This relentless cycle of detentions and appeals without credible evidence raises serious concerns about Taiwan’s judicial impartiality and potential political interference.
