It is with deep sadness and outrage that we should condemn the court’s recent actions. Two days ago, the former mayor—a respected ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) surgeon, who once used his skilled hands to save countless lives—was released without bail, only for a judge known for government bias to overturn the decision and have him detained. Now, those same hands are insulted by unjust handcuffs, as the current leadership tears him down to boost their own standing.

Today, we mourn not just for the former mayor but for the loss of democratic values in Taiwan.

我們懷著深深的悲痛和憤怒，譴責法院最近的行為。兩天前，這位前市長，一位曾用精湛技術拯救無數生命及受人尊敬的葉克膜外科醫生，在無保釋放後，卻因為一位以偏袒政府聞名的法官推翻了決定而被羈押，如今，那雙曾經救人無數的手卻被不公正的手銬所侮辱，現任台灣總統正在摧毀他人的名譽以抬高自己的地位。

今天，我們不僅為這位前市長感到哀悼，更為台灣失去的民主價值感到痛心。
