This post of mine is inspired by a mod I have played called: Manual Transmission.

We know that mods are not allowed on GTA Online servers which is why I am here. I have been playing with a mod that allows me to use a wheel controller in GTAV - Manual Transmission. Manual Transmission has shown me what is possible with GTAV as far as the ability to allow a wheel and pedal to work amazingly well with GTAV. In my case, I was using a Logitech G920 Wheel and Pedals.

The mod adds the ability to drive via a Wheel & Pedal controller with forced feedback and manual shifting that can be controlled via the xbox controller (A shifts down, X shifts up) or the paddle shifters on the wheel controller - you can shift down to Neutral and even Reverse. These wheel and pedal controls could work with automatic non-shifting vehicle controls that is already present in GTAV in the same way, just minus the shifting. The mod let's you play in automatic to test this out for yourself.

Wheel Controller buttons:
Along side these features was the ability to assign controller button inputs to your liking. For an example, you could  change the radio stations (previous station/next station) with the left side bumper and right side bumper on the wheel controller - you could look back, left or right while driving using the directional pads on the wheel controller - you could change the camera mode - you could flash the high beams - honk the horn - exit or enter the vehicle - cycle the lights - or you could activate cruise control <- you could do all of these things using the buttons on the wheel controller. You could set that cruise control to your desired speed - change the cruise control speed while in cruise control - or you could have cruise control simply match the speed of the vehicle in front of you once activated, creating a situation where I could actually drive without even touching the gas pedal all while abiding by traffic laws.
Assigning Enter and Exit vehicle to Y on the wheel controller made it so that I can exit the vehicle as I reach for the controller to switch to controller controls in a seamless fashion. You could even fine tune the strength of the forced feedback at various driving speeds which I haven't even touched. The abilities are vast.

In conclusion,
this has created a situation where it is very fun driving in GTAV with my wheel controller which I use on other games like Beam Next Generation. There is just one thing missing, I can't bring this mod into GTA Online because mods aren't allowed on GTA Online servers (for good reasons).

I do believe that having wheel and pedal controls would be a great addition to GTAV and GTA Online and would not create any unfair advantages in driving or races in GTA Online. I am sure that there are many people who have a wheel and pedal controller who would love to use it while playing GTA Online especially in things like Taxi Service, racing or even just long drives through Blaine County. If you're one of those people then consider signing this petition to vote for official wheel and pedal support in GTAV & and GTA Online.

If Rockstar Games were to add official native wheel and pedal support to GTAV, it would undoubtedly add the same features to GTA Online. I am aware that you can't use drive-by controls on mainstream wheel controllers, which means some missions would require a controller to play it through. It would obviously be up to the player to decide when is a good time to switch to using a wheel for controls and when to use a controller during gameplay. Keeping a controller powered on and next to you would allow you to switch between the wheel and the controller at any time. People who are up for it could modify their wheel controller to allow them to shoot while driving but they have to know what they are doing (I have a few ideas about how to do this). For now, you could always use your mouse to aim and shoot while driving with the wheel by keeping your mouse next to you. I recommend practicing driving with the wheel with one hand (your left hand) - if you can master this, then aiming and shooting with the mouse while driving with the wheel controller should not be hard at all. Some missions can be played all the way through and through with a wheel with again things like: Taxi Service, Race missions and just free roam driving where you are doing nothing but driving the entire time.
