Read this email from Nina Carberry I got last week:

Dear Mr Quinn
As a former sportswoman and somebody with an abiding interest in exercise and its role in physical and mental wellbeing, I am a fan of greenways. As well as providing safe commuting routes, they allow families to get out in the open air and enjoy the countryside.

They also provide a valuable tourism product with the proven ability to revive rural areas and create jobs and business opportunities. This proposed interim use of a closed railway alignment is sensible, pragmatic, and can help sustain and revive communities along the route.

In response to your question as to whether I support the Western Rail Trail proposal, to utilise the closed railway alignment from Claremorris to Collooney as a greenway until such time as a railway might be possible, I take the same view as Minister Ryan, and of CIE – this is a sensible proposal.
If elected to the European Parliament, my door will always be open when my support is needed for funding or other support at European level for greenways or related infrastructure in this constituency.

In short, that would be an unconditional 'yes' from me.

Regards
