I heard from a message board source boards.ie that apparently all the emails sent to Sean Canney which are automatically generated when someone signs the petition are put in a spam folder. Interesting that! If it's true, I call it burying your head in the sand. However if you are a constituent of Sean Canney, here is your opportunity. While he can choose to ignore an email from a petitioning website he is duty bound to respond to his electorate if they contact him direct; so why not challenge him. sean.canney@oir.ie will find him. Ask him why is opposed to the greenway on the closed railway to protect the route until such time as a railway is possible. Ask him what he expects from his report into the Western Rail Corridor, a miracle? Ask him why he doesn't want Tuam and Athenry to benefit from the tourist boom a greenway will bring. His stock response is we should find an alternative route can be found! So to pre-empt this Ask him where he will find a strip of publically owned land wide enough for a railway and greenway that will not cost the state a penny in land costs? Ask him if he has seen the success of the Waterford Greenway and the Great Western Greenway? Which have resulted in new jobs literally popping up as a result of the economic activity - people out and about - on the greenway. Ask him to respond directly or even better go to his constituency office and ask him. He won't listen but people in East Galway need to make sure he is. He won't put constituents emails in the junk folder! Oh and share this story with people you know in Galway East!
