We are about 150 signatures/supporters short of the 10,000 mark, this is astonishing for a petition in the West of Ireland. Many thanks for your support. Of course ten thousand supporters does not get us our greenway, it does not get us the support of Galway County Council or Mayo County Council - and let me take this opportunity of thanking Sligo County Council for now being 100% behind the greenway. What it does do is send a message. This is what people want. It helps the on the ground community groups like the Tuam Greenway Group campaigning for the Athenry Tuam Milltown section of the greenway to say we have the public support, it helps the Kiltimagh greenway group campaigning for the Mayo section to say to Mayo county council they have popular support for this idea. It means the department of transport know what people in the west think, and it means the greenway campaign is here to stay and is not going away, 10,000 will be a huge landmark when we arrive there soon; but why stop there, let's keep getting others to send the message. No more reports about railways we know won't happen, preserve the route now with a greenway, keep it in public ownership and give our communities a greenway, give our tourism industry the greenway and lets use the route now for something useful.
