Petition updateCreate a walking and cycling greenway on the closed railway from Sligo to AthenrySean Canney trying to put a last minute block on Western Rail Trail Greenway
Western Rail Trail
Feb 9, 2018
Those of you who follow this campaign closely will be aware one TD in Galway East, Sean Canney is opposed to the Western Rail Trail as he still believes the railway will be built. It won't and the news leaked in the Irish Times yesterday that the Western Rail Corridor is not going to be part of the National Development Plan has got Sean Canney hopping mad. The trouble is he has influence as a member of the Independent Alliance holding up the Government. Canney will do anything he can to stop the Greenway going on the closed railway, despite the fact we all know the railway will not be built. An attempt will be made this week to fudge the issue ahead of a cabinet meeting next Friday February 16th. The "fudge" will probably take the form of Sean Canney being granted a special study into the Western Rail Corridor to assess its viability. Yes another report to tell us there is no need for this waste of money. Thousands of people, not just the near 4,000 people who have signed this petition support a greenway, however by signing this petition and receiving these updates we can act in one as a voice that needs to be heard. Tomorrow I will be sending another email asking everyone who has signed this petition to join me and others in a mass emailing campaign to the cabinet ahead of next weeks meeting. It will be a copy paste send job, all I ask is that you please participate and hopefully get others to do so as well. We are also asking for a massive recruitment drive to get as many people as possible to sign this petition in the next seven days ahead of the cabinet meeting. Peoples voices do matter and if you say nothing , guess what, You don't get heard. Thank you so much for your continued patience and support. Brendan
