Department of Biodiversity and Conservation, Remove Jewell Crossberg

Department of Biodiversity and Conservation, Remove Jewell Crossberg
The issue
Jewell Crossberg, who posed alongside dead big game animals has been appointed to the position Acting District Manager for Esperance, in the Western Australian Department of Biodiversity and Conservation.
A man who sees no issue with hunting endangered and threatened species should not be in a role protecting Australia’s native flora and fauna, as he clearly lacks the judgement to do so, despite the photos being taken at a South African Hunting lodge, where such hunts are legal.
Since his appointment, photos showing him posing armed with dead zebras, rhinos, giraffes and elephants have been made public. The photos came from a Facebook album, uploaded in 2010 entitled "business and pleasure".
Members of his local community alerted 9News of their displeasure in an anonymous letter.
"We the citizens of Esperance are very concerned about the recent appointment of Jewell Crossberg,"
"We think the director Jason Foster has made a very bad judgement call.”
"We are so disappointed to see Mr Crossberg is not a true conservationist and shouldn't be in a position of this standing."
In a statement, the department said it was committed to wildlife conservation and ensuring the world's best animal welfare practices were in place throughout the state, appointing Jewell does not align with that goal and as such he should be stood down. Please join the citizens of Esperance in their calls to have this man removed from his post.
