Equal Rights For Father's/ DVP Reform

The Issue

Men in the State of West Virgina aren't allowed to be fathers unless we're in a relationship with the mother.  The family court system in our state is designed with favortism towards women and this is wrong.  Fathers are a major part of a child's life when growing up and allowing a few hours of visitation isn't going to cut it anymore.  We want our rights to be respected, we want to be in our children's lives, we want to be fathers!  As I myself am going through the system right now, I can tell you exactly how off balance and prejudiced it is.  My estranged wife raced to the court house without provokation and filed for a Domestic Violence Protective Order.  This was all on the advice of her attorney who had her bait me into an argument and then had her record half of the conversation.  They then used this "evidence" in court to deem me and threat to my estranged wife, not my child, and to take my baby away.  She was awarded custody from the DVP and I get 8-12 hours a week visitation with a son that I had't missed a day of his life since birth, 18 months.  No, I wasn't always there in person, but I talked to him on the phone, videochatted with him, or I was there every single day.  That is just my personal story, most men in the state have a similar one of how a system designed to protect women who truly need it is being abused by vengeful estragned and ex-wives and sneaky attorneys.  This is a call to all men and women who think that children need both parents in their lives to sign this petition and urge Governor Tomblin to have a face to face meeting with the Fathers for Equal Rights of West Virgina so that we may fix these horrible errors before anymore children suffer!
