West Lafayette City Council: Pass a Resolution To Protect Gender Affirming Care!

West Lafayette City Council: Pass a Resolution To Protect Gender Affirming Care!
The Issue
To Mayor Erin Easter and Members of the West Lafayette City Council,
We, the people of Greater Lafayette, urge the City Council to follow in the footsteps of the Bloomington City Council (Resolution 2024-14) and pass a resolution protecting Transgender patients and providers of gender-affirming healthcare from prosecution.
The Indiana Daily Student describes the logistics of the aforementioned Bloomington resolution as this:
"The now-adopted resolution declares the city of Bloomington a safe haven for gender-affirming care; recommends city personnel not penalize any individual or organization providing or receiving gender affirming healthcare; and says any state law or regulation which imposes civil liability, or penalties on those providing or receiving gender affirming care be enforced with low priority."
As a progressive and diverse community, West Lafayette has a opportunity to lead by example and affirm its commitment to the dignity, safety, and well-being of all residents, including its Transgender residents, by passing our own safe haven resolution. Doing this would be taking a stand to protect transgender individuals and allowing our city to serve as a beacon of hope for a community who is facing undue challenges, discrimination, and social stigmatization across the state and country.
