Hi everyone, sorry for not updating earlier - been really busy with work and had a lousy cold too!! I have spoken with WDC (the manager of the Greenspace section) a couple of times this week. He has explained the reasons why they need to get us to remove any stone, kerbs, fences etc from the lairs. They are trying to improve the whole cemetery and he has agreed that the cemetery has declined in recent years. They are recruiting new staff for the cemetery so this should hopefully help. They are so unusually busy with burials and he told me that all of the plots in the main section have either someone buried there or the plots have been bought. So when plots are being reopened etc then the grounds are weakened. If we have stones etc, then this encroaches the lair next to it.
We also spoke about the subsidence and they are trying to see what can be done about it. He is trying to get the grounds up to a better standard. He explained that each lair should have approx 12" of soil in front of the headstone (for flowers) and then then just grass. It would make it easier for them to maintain the grounds and not have to use strimmers.
After speaking to him in Wednesdsy - I had a good think and spoke it over with Scott (the hubby) and phoned him back on Thursday. I put an idea forward to him and we have come up with the following - we are going to remove our stones and wooden edging this weekend and WDC are going to use our lair and the 2 lairs next to ours as an example of what they want all of the lairs to be like. I think this is the best option at this time - it means we can keep on top of WDC and make sure they carry out what they say they are going to do.
They have said that they do not know when the will actually remove fences etc - even though the notice says 28 days. They should not be removing personal items as it should only be fences, stones, kerbs etc - so if you have personal items missing you need to report this to WDC as this should not be happening.
Thanks again for all of your support with this xx
