CALL TO ACTION!
Right now Clare County is in the process of updating our solid waste management plan. It will now be called 'materials management' to include recycling as well. Each county has a plan like this to deal with trash. It is updated every 10 years or so.

Our county is taking input from citizens on what they want to see in the new plan. They have a survey on their website to get community input on this plan. They would like this input by May 30, 2026, so we need to fill out the survey this week! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2LW7FXZ

There is no place for comment on the survey, but our Counti Administrator, Lori Phelps, kindly invites all citizens to email her with comments about this plan: phelpsl@clareco.net

WE CAN COMMENT THINGS LIKE "NO WASTE TRANSFER FACILIY, LANDFILL, OR INCINERATOR SHOULD BE PLACED NEAR DENSE RESIDENTIAL AREAS, and only in places with 20 or fewer residences within a mile of the facility.' Then, it will be part of our plan that a waste transfer facility CANNOT BE PLACED in a location with 1,000 homes nearby!
