“We the people” say To the Brevard County Commissioners! Your proposals do NOT fix the firefighter retention crisis!!!!
Here’s why:
A “delayed pay raise” is NOT a real pay raise. Our county is in critical condition, Firefighters need better wages NOW to keep BCFR from collapsing.
Still 25-30% lower pay than surrounding counties.
NO Kelly Days—neighboring counties KNOW to provide their first responders with Kelly Days, but BCFR firefighters continue to work longer, grueling shifts.

Orlando Health Rockledge Closure:WILL Impact our county and BCFR
Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital is closing in April 2024, and this will only further stress an already fragile system. Historically, BCFR has transported patients to Rockledge, but with its closure, patients will now need to be transported to Cape Canaveral, Vieira, or Holmes Regional.
Longer transport times will put critical patients at risk.
Response times will increase as our crews are spread thinner and forced to cover more ground.
This closure comes on top of the firefighter shortages, and without the necessary staffing and resources, Brevard County Fire Rescue’s ability to respond quickly and effectively will be compromised
This only highlights the urgent need for immediate action on full pay raises NOW and critical staffing improvements.
With more patients to transport and longer distances to cover, the strain on BCFR will only worsen unless this is addressed now.
