Well, hasn't this exercise been enlightening!
Whilst we have some serious residents keen to create change, we have others equally keen to keep the status quo - congestion. If you are on a local community FB page you will have noticed dozens of ruffled feathers.
Starting this petition was not only to merrily request a change from T3 to T2, I started this petition to open up community dialogue. Whilst I still think allowing more commuters to use the T3 lane is valid, we have moved on since then.
Our pain point is Onewa Road, and AT has continued to let this situation play out, doing absolutely nothing.
There have been some great ideas shared by the public:
1) Build a bridge from Stafford Road, creating a new on-ramp point for Birkenhead residents.
2) Create a carpooling App
3) Enlist a crossing monitor (parent or teacher) to time more mindfully, hitting the crossing button for school students.
4) Phasing of lights to be in synch - AT have stated they will be doing this in the future, I don't see what the hold up is.
5) Fix the ferry system - more frequent crossings and a weekly $50 cap as AT has done for buses and Trains.
6) Allow T3 commuters to use the bus onramp, reducing the bottleneck at the bottom of the road.
Keep sharing and presenting your ideas.
