Dear First Minster,
I am reaching out to you for help and support for Louise Caldwell's campaign to get dedicated baby loss facilities into Maternity hospitals.
She started her campaign after her loss October 2019 when she delivered her dead baby at 13 weeks in the labour ward. This was while live and healthy babies were coming into the world or already born.
The campaign -Baby Loss Unit- has been included in the SNP manifesto. It was also a commitment made to the women of Scotland in the Women's Health Plan 2022.
The Health Manifesto laid out a commitment that dedicated baby loss facilities will be in place by the end of 2024, she was told by Maree Todd MSP via a zoom meeting, that sign posts would begin January 2023, sadly this has not happened.
For every delay, woman will endure delivering their dead baby among Live healthy births, coming face to face with 'welcome to the world' balloons, cards and new born baby photos on walls! I'm sure you will agree this is barbaric, cruel, inhumane and completely against women's rights.
Our hope is that as First Minister you will support the progression, and help push the campaign. We also hope you can reassure us that this is still priority for the Scottish Government.
If you or anyone you may know has been affected by a loss of a baby during pregnancy, you will understand how painful, traumatic and completely heartbreaking it is!
These units /rooms are for future women! We all have sisters, wife's, aunties, Sister in laws, female friends, best friends, cousins or even your mum who could one day be told the devastating news "I'm so sorry I don't see a heartbeat "
Let me ask you! Would really want a female in your life to hear the words "you have to deliver in the labour ward"
Louise's petition on Change.org has nearly 34,000 signatures and of course heartbreaking comments pleading for these rooms or telling Louise their story of having to deliver in the labour ward.
Last year December 2022 Louise had the opportunity to go to Westminster and get as many MPs signatures on her early day motion as possible. All Maternity hospitals in the UK need separate baby loss facilities not just Wishaw General Hospital.
