Jul 10, 2018 — Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and encouraged friends and family to do same. Over the Open Garden Squares Weekend our paper petition gathered a further 175 signatures. Almost 1,000 supporters in total - and still growing!
Our promising news is as follows: at the end of June, members of the Golden Baggers met with the City’s Surveyors Department, the contractor and landscape designer for the scheme and a COLPAI communications representative.
The meeting was very constructive and solution driven and as a result the Director of Children’s and Community Services has now given outline approval to keeping the trees and re-planting at the City’s cost should they die after the school has been completed as consequence of the construction. We're thrilled that the City very quickly understood the importance of the trees to the wellbeing of our local community and in sustaining the precious green corridor.
There is some work to be done by the contractor and landscape design team before we get the revised plans. However we are confident that we will proceed with good communications with the City and look forward to giving you further positive updates.
