Petition updateWe need Freddie Mac to accept our Deed-in-Lieu-of-Foreclosure: VERMICULITE INSULATION (ASBESTOS)Some Additional Information
Alan RobinsonSidney, NY, United States
Jun 13, 2013 — Note: W.R. GRACE, the manufacturer of the vermiculite insulation, filed for bankruptcy and can no longer be held accountable for their Zonalite attic insulation. Very convenient. They processed and sold their insulation into the 90's even though they knew it contained asbestos. The EPA kept it quiet until the 2000's, but the public is still certainly not adequately informed (I obtained estimates from three separate licensed contractors that did not know vermiculite insulation contained asbestos). When we purchased our home in 2005, house inspectors in New York State could not be held accountable for inaccurate/incomplete inspections. Our inspector failed to report the vermiculite, a bat infestation, and other areas with asbestos. The previous owner did not disclose any of the issues with the home, and passed away not too long after we bought the house. The house is balloon-framed, so the attic insulation has spilled into the wall cavities. (Continued in next post)
