We need far better provision for safe, accessible cycling in Macclesfield

The Issue

Make Macclesfield safe for cyclists!

  • Create a network of protected cycle lanes in Macclesfield
  • Fix the potholes to make our streets safer for all
  • Improve the national cycle route (NCN55) through the centre of Macclesfield
  • Introduce 20 mph speed limits on all residential urban roads to make cycling and walking safer and more pleasant

Why this Petition Matters

We, on behalf of the Green Party, have been asking people in Macclesfield what matters to them. Time and again, we are hearing that people would cycle, or cycle more, if cycling in Macclesfield was safer.

We have little to no high quality provision for cyclists in the town, and indeed protecting and pleasing car drivers seems to be the sole focus of Cheshire East Council.

Recently Cheshire East was identified as having the most potholes of any Council in the country*. And what is our Council’s proposed solution? Not to fix them, but to stop using FixMyStreet for reporting!

Sign our petition, and join us on our Cycle Protest on Saturday June 7th (11am start). Click here for more details and to register for our cycle protest.

If you have a friend or family member who doesn't currently cycle in Macc but would if there was a nice safe way to do it, please do ask them to sign too. The more that sign up, the more pressure we can apply to bring about real change.

Thank you!
