For many of us, the papaya is not just a fruit. It is a symbol of creativity, exploration, and connection. I have used the imagery of the papaya in my art to harmonize the synergies between nature, humanity, and technology. One of my most daring artistic endeavors involved sending a papaya to the moon – a gesture that transcends the norms, pushing the limits between art and space exploration. Yet, despite its significant cultural and symbolic value, the papaya remains unfairly absent from our range of emojis. It's time we rectify this omission.

There are emojis for almost all fruits, but sadly, the papaya has been left out. The Unicode Consortium, responsible for curating emojis for our global communication, has not yet included an emoji for this iconic fruit. This oversight does not reflect the essential status the papaya holds in various cultures around the world and within my own artistic works. As of 2021, the Unicode Consortium has created more than 3,500 emojis (Emojipedia), yet none of those represent the vibrant papaya.

Join us in asking the Unicode Consortium to consider including a papaya emoji in their next update. The introduction of this emoji will not only spotlight the symbolic importance of the papaya, but also, it will be a step towards making our digital conversations more inclusive and connective.
