The Issue

This petition is on behalf of residents across East Anglia.

Covering;

  • Norfolk
  • Suffolk
  • Cambridgeshire
  • Essex (some parts covered within East Anglia)

This is a call to local residents of East Anglia, to demand from our councils and relevant MPs to commit to full transparency and meaningful public consultation if approached by the Home Office or its representatives regarding the use of local accommodation—like hotels, care homes, temporary sites, or HMOs—for asylum seekers.

This is not anti-asylum or anti-immigration. We fully recognise the importance of supporting those in need. But we strongly believe that affected communities—across the towns and cities in East Anglia—deserve to have their voices heard in decisions that directly impact local housing, services, and that’s the correct planning and consultation happens.

We ask the relevant councils and MPs across East Anglia to:

  • Immediately notify local residents and ward councillors if approached by the Home Office or third-party contractors regarding asylum accommodation proposals.

  • Publish clear and accessible information about any ongoing or proposed negotiations, agreements, or plans.
    Hold a meaningful public consultation to gather feedback before decisions are finalised.

  • Conduct a full community impact assessment, addressing potential effects on housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and public services.

  • Ensure democratic scrutiny, making all decisions publicly traceable—no behind-doors deals—and genuinely respond to community views.

  • To agree to block the Home Office with court action if they do not follow the correct planning and consultation process, via the use of an injunction.

We believe any decision of this magnitude must be open, accountable, and community-led. That includes communities across East Anglia.

Call to Action:

Sign this petition if you support a fair, transparent process where your voice matters—and help us ask our MPs and councils for a public response and a commitment to full transparency.

Please sign and share this with your friends, families and anyone who will be affected within our local communities.
