WHILE WE HAVE BEEN PROMISED A NEW VACCINE, IT IS NOT READY YET. It is STILL important to vaccinate with the Cylap rcd vaccine developed for the RHDV351 in 1996. It may afford some protection for K5 , efficacy amount unproven . RHDV2 AND THE NEW MYXO, HAVE NO VACCINE. RHDV2 is known world wide to be NOT species specific so is a virus that should not be actively used as a method of controlling rabbits in the wild. It should have been treated as a bio security outbreak when it was first discovered in 2015. This did not happen. Now it has become endemic across Australia. It currently is very active in areas where K5 is released. Reason unknown. Please be aware of areas where K5 is released and if you have multiple rabbits die suddenly and unexpectedly, please get them tested with CSIRO . It is free to test and they send a kit to you with a prepaid postage to return liver sample. If unable to do sample yourself a vet can do this. Please freeze until kit arrives with the vials.
