It does seem like we get one step forward and two steps back. Many people just don't understand that the Randwick City Council had strict conditions on opening the beaches again which were designed to allow exercise only.
In his letter to me following receipt of the petition Mayor Danny Said described, "Measures are in place to ensure the beaches are accessed for exercise purposes only including sand jogging and walking, swimming, surfing and other exercise activities. People must maintain 1.5 metres between each other, limit groups to two people and move on once they have completed their exercise. Sitting or sun-baking on the sand are not permitted. Ocean rock pools in Randwick City will remain closed until further notice as they are subject to a public health order to close. We will continue to review compliance with social distancing, and work with the NSW Police to ensure they are supported. I urge everybody to do the right thing and practice social distancing while exercising so that we can maintain access for exercise purposes and get through this difficult period together."
Under the circumstances they had no choice but to close the beaches again when so many people don't follow these rules. We must all take the rules onboard and try and get others to understand and follow them. These hot, sunny days don't help but if we don't act together the upcoming opening of Bondi, Tama and Bronte is in danger. So please spread the word and do the right thing.
