Big thanks to Luke Kennedy for dealing with the council to find out exactly what the rules will be for surfing and swimming access when they come into place on Tuesday the 28th.
I've attached a link to the council's media release which includes a FAQ link which outlines it all clearly. The main thing will be to make sure no-one flats the basic rule which is ‘Swim & Go’ and ‘Surf & Go’ areas are for surf craft users and ocean swimmers only. No paddlers or bathers allowed.
As Luke says, "The key for surfers will be NOT DRIFTING INTO THE SWIM ZONE as they can't have flags. Don't cluster in the Car park for Too Long. If it Looks Too Crowded Wait A while. Don't all try and surf at the same time.
We need to ensure non-surfers and random beach goers don't spoil it for us...again! So, know the rules, follow the rules and make sure others do the same. This is exactly the type of reasonable, controlled access to ocean exercise I was hoping for.
Let's make this work!
