Randwick City Council has made the decision to trust the common sense of it's residents and allow ocean access for surfing and swimming. This is fantastic news and a recognition of the importance of ocean exercise for physical and mental health.
Waverley is also considering making arrangements for ocean access for exercise. We must make it clear we don't want or need the beaches to be open for sunbathing or socialising. But we do want access for swimming and surfing. I have been told there is a public hearing at Waverley Council on Tuesday and will try and get the details for Waverley residents to go along and have their say.
I lodged both petitions on Friday and I hope this might have been a little part of the Randwick City Council decision process. I'll make sure the petition is presented at the public hearing in Waverley too. SO let's keep up the pressure. It seems we're almost there and common sense is winning out.
