Washington State Legislature: Outlaw Sale of Automatic Firearms
Washington State Legislature: Outlaw Sale of Automatic Firearms
The Issue
Our government does not operate on an "All or None" basis. There are many areas of gradation in the law, from severity of offense to tax rates. While our Constitutional Freedom requires "the right to bear arms," there is nothing in this Amendment signifying all weapons to all men and women. Certain States and Provinces have already taken actions to limit who may purchase a firearm, where these may be carried, and what types of firearms may be owned by whom. In Washington, the only current restrictions include no machine gun or short-barreled rifles or shotguns. There is also no license or registration requirements other than at retail establishments. Our legislature must take action - ONE LIFE is too many, and due to similar laws 27 are dead in Connecticut. NOW is the time in our society to step up and create reasonable boundaries which do NOT prohibit, but Regulate how we issue and maintain weapons in this state. Perhaps we may be the state which influences the rest of the union, as we have in allowing marriage equality. Please introduce legislation this session that temporarily prohibits further sale of fully automatic weapons, and establishes a licensing agency to require licensure or registration by any gun owner of their weapons.
