If Sports Teams Can Evolve, So Can the Washington Post

Color is only wavelengths. It does not confer morality. It does not represent humanity.

The biased term "redskins" has thankfully been retired. We are closer to perceiving others not as skin colors but as human beings. (And frankly, whoever saw people as actual colors has very poor eyesight.)

We are evolving, but we need to continue. When will we stop maligning darkness? Devaluing blackness primes humans to devalue those they refer to as "Black." We are witnessing the ultimate result of this bias: angry white bigots—some who even occupy the President's House—who are denying our right to live in peaceful diversity. The unbiased know brain power matters more than skin color when assessing humans. Critical thinking about the use of color in biased clichés immediately causes the intelligent to deduce that these antiquated phrases of pre-thought thought should be avoided. Writer, journalists, and especially newspapers should be leading the way to equity. Democracy is not dying in darkness; it's dying in idiocy. "Dark" can be "darling" with the right frame of mind and a flexibility with spelling.
