The D5 bus route is critical for the residents of Bethesda and Palisades who commute to downtown DC on a daily basis. The D5 provides the most direct and cost-efficient way to commute. There is no alternative bus or other means of public transportation that could effectively substitute it. The D5 is also a very efficient route, as it runs only in the mornings towards downtown and in the late afternoons out of downtown. Buses regularly operate at their full capacity and is a good use of taxpayer money. The D6 does not reach the same areas as the D5 in Bethesda, and offers an unacceptably slow connection to downtown for commuters in Palisades. Therefore, we, the subscribers below, request from the Board of WMATA to scrap the proposal of the Finance and Capital Committee to terminate the D5 bus service.
