This petition raised great awareness for the difficulties VP Tennis was facing with WDC last year regarding the on-going poor state the tennis court surfaces and plans to use the facility as a media centre for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. We are extremely grateful for all the support received from local residents, but unfortunately we couldn't stop WDC going ahead with their plans. The courts have therefore been decommissioned this month and taken over by CWG leaving hundreds of local residents without access to a key leisure and sports facility for an unknown length of time and with no commitment from WDC as to when the courts will be put back in place.
In addition to this disruption, WDC has also now triggered a new tender process for provision of tennis services at Victoria Park, four years before VP Tennis' operating license is actually due to expire. The tender is based on a significantly flawed assessment of the club's performance and is putting a hugely popular and successful local business at risk.
