The Issue

The Russian Federation (Russia) is committing war crimes. Among others, Russia is executing POWs, ref.: https://x.com/prestonstew_/status/1856076841175433376

Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 was a blatant violation of the United Nations (UN) Charter and a threat to international peace and security. Russia's aggression also showed its contempt for the UN and its role as a permanent member of the Security Council, which is supposed to uphold the principles and purposes of the organization.

However, Russia's position in the Security Council also gives it a de facto immunity from expulsion from the UN as it can veto any resolution that would invoke Article 6 of the Charter which states that "a Member of the United Nations which has persistently violated the Principles contained in the present Charter may be expelled from the Organization by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council".

This is a serious flaw in the UN system that allows Russia to act with impunity and undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the organization. Therefore, the petition signers implore and propose a radical but necessary solution: Russia must be expelled from the UN now, regardless of its veto power.

The petition signers believe that there is a legal and moral basis for expelling Russia from the UN without its consent. First, Russia's invasion of Ukraine constitutes a material breach of the UN Charter, which nullifies its rights and obligations under the treaty, including its membership in the organization. Second, Russia's veto power is not absolute, as it can be overridden by a majority vote of the General Assembly under the Uniting for Peace resolution. Third, Russia's expulsion from the UN would be consistent with the principle of collective security and the responsibility to protect, which oblige the international community to take action against threats to peace and human rights.

The petition signers urge the international community to take this bold step and expel Russia from the UN now before it causes more death, destruction and suffering in Ukraine, Europe and worldwide. The petition signers support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemn Russia's violation of international law and human rights.

The petition signers hope that after expulsion Russia will end its aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukraine and that a peaceful and diplomatic solution can be found to resolve the conflict;—and then and only then will they be considered as being able to join back with the civilized community of nations. The petition signers also hope that the UN will reform its system and prevent any future abuse of power by its members.

EINSTEIN'S 1952 WARNING: THE UN AND WORLD'S MOMENT OF TRUTH

In the publication, New Outlook, February 1952, “Potentialities of the UN”, Albert Einstein wrote about the United Nations with both hope and warning. He identified the UN's "most valuable feature" as its "psychological or educational effect"—gradually accustoming peoples "to the idea that national interests must be safeguarded by negotiation and not by brute force."

The Russian Federation has shattered this foundation.

Einstein understood that the UN's effectiveness depended on more than documents and declarations. He wrote prophetically:

"To give formal recognition to standards and to adopt them as the guiding lines of action... are two very different things... Then and only then will the Declaration exert effective influence, when the United Nations itself shows by its decisions and actions that it does embody, de facto, the spirit of this, its own Declaration."

This is that moment.

Russia's June 22nd, 2025 condemnation of US strikes on Iran reveals breathtaking hypocrisy. Russia's Foreign Ministry declared:

"The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. We call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track."

Russia lectured the world about respecting territorial integrity/sovereignty and ending aggression while simultaneously:

- Illegally occupying Ukrainian territory for 1,000+ days

- Executing Ukrainian prisoners of war  

- Deporting 20,000+ Ukrainian children

- Bombing and destroying civilian infrastructure daily

- Injuring, maiming, extinguishing innocent lives: men, women, children, babies (born and unborn) on a consistent basis

This represents the complete inversion of Einstein's hoped for effectiveness and potentialities. The Russian Federation uses the UN platform not to "accustom peoples to negotiation" but to shield aggression and war criminality. It invokes international law while systematically violating it. This must end!

Einstein's Educational Effect — Destroyed

The UN was meant to teach the world that disputes could be resolved without "brute force." Instead, the Russian Federation demonstrates that UN membership provides impunity for brute force and war crimes. Every day Russia remains in the UN is a direct and egregious violation of its charter—one in which they are waging unjustified, illegal war, committing war crimes, teaching the opposite lessons and potentialities Einstein hoped for.

The Psychological Foundation is Collapsing

Einstein wrote that "no effective institution for collective security is possible without understanding and a measure of reciprocal confidence." The Russian Federation has systematically destroyed both:

- Understanding: Through disinformation campaigns and denial of documented war crimes

- Reciprocal Confidence: By using diplomatic platforms to plan and justify illegal aggressions and war crimes

Einstein's Test Applied

Einstein demanded the UN prove itself through "decisions and actions" that embody its declared principles. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) means nothing if a permanent Security Council member can violate every principle in the UN Charter itself while at the same time blocking any and all accountability.

The test is clear: Either the UN acts to remove an unchanging and egregious violator, war criminal aggressor from its ranks, or it admits that infantile, illegal, and barbaric war criminality trumps its foundational principles.

The Path Einstein Would Recognize

In 1952, Einstein wrote that the UN represented "a modest beginning of international order" leading toward an eventual "world federation of nations." He understood this required a new kind of loyalty that does not stop short at national boundaries.

141 nations already previously demonstrated that loyalty by condemning Russian Federation aggression and war criminal acts. Now those nations must work together to complete Einstein's vision by showing that the UN can enforce its principles against a permanent, violating member.

The Russia Federation's Illegal UN Succession — Einstein Would Have Questioned It

Einstein, the physicist and humanitarian who revolutionized our understanding of space and time, would have applied the same rigor to legal succession. The Russian Federation's 1991 claim to the Soviet UN Security Council seat through a simple letter from Boris Yeltsin bypassed every procedural requirement Einstein would have expected from a scientific, universal, international institution.

The Soviet Union ceased to exist. The Russian Federation inherited its UN Security Council seat without General Assembly vote, legal process, or Charter authority. This procedural flaw can be corrected by the same 141 nations that already condemned Russian aggression.

Einstein's Ultimate Warning

Einstein closed his 1952 essay with a Buddhist teaching: "Where self is, truth is not. Where truth is, self is not." War criminal Putin's regime represents pure narcissistic "self"—infantile, war criminal nationalist ego that destroys truth itself.

The UN must choose: Truth or self. International law or national power. Einstein's vision or war criminal Putin's inversion.
