Save Toland Square

The Issue

Save Our Community...

Wandsworth Council is trying to take away the only green space that exists in Toland Square. A new building will see mature trees cut down, our green spaces decimated, and our lives negatively impacted thanks to less light, reduced visibility and a loss of privacy.

This luscious space you see above will no longer exist.

The green spaces are the heart of the estate which brings residents, families and friends together. These will be taken away in almost their entirety with these new plans.

Many children that live on and off the estate use these green spaces daily. With these taken away, they will have nowhere to play football/tag/hide and seek or make new friends.

Children’s mental and physical health has become a huge issue, especially in recent years, and it is widely acknowledged that they need MORE green spaces to run and play. These plans do the opposite of what is recommended by healthy professionals and force all the children indoors.

Our estate is currently a haven for children of all ages - a safe space for them to play and commune. Without it, where will they socialise? Where will they go to keep active? We need this area available, not only for the children but for the local community.

We have residents with physical and mental disabilities. The estate is their only access to nature. They cannot travel the mile to Richmond Park or Putney Heath - the nearest green spaces - so they will be left with nowhere to walk and sit in the sunshine.

There will no longer be equity for all on our estate, and everyone will suffer as a result.

Toland Square is a very small estate with a very strong community. With more homes and no green spaces, it just won’t be the safe neighbourhood we all know and love anymore!

Our West Putney Councillors, Councillor Steffi Sutters, Councillor Jane Cooper and Councillor Ian Lewer are also very much on board with this petition, as are the Liberal Democrats, who are actively supporting our campaign, and have objected to this proposal just like the residents. The councillors can see just how strongly the residents feel about these proposed plans and definitely do not want to see this scheme go ahead.

Please sign and help us get this build stopped!
