An InDoor Skatepark in Waltham Forest / a safe, exciting skate hub for our community

The Issue

INDOOR SKATEPARK IN WALTHAM FOREST

Waltham Forest and East London have an amazing skate community. We have one of the most thriving skateboarding scenes in the UK with lots of creative talents and inspiring individuals.

This petition is to show support from the community and to prove that there is a genuine need for large indoor skatepark facility. We have a few good outdoor skateparks but a real lack of indoor space which will accommodate the ever-growing skateboard, BMX, and inline community in and around East London.

The summer is over and we are facing rainy & cold days and there are currently 0 indoor skateparks within 11 miles from Waltham Forest.

Let’s change it.

OUR PROPOSAL:

We are proposing to create an indoor skate hub, a safe space for young people and our community to enjoy indoor skate facilities. It will also serve as a youth enterprise hub for workshops &  training as well as helping foster fundamental human needs such as belonging, self-esteem, creativity, and personal and social development.

The facility will also include a café and a skate shop where people of all ages can get together and enjoy and join our community where we would promote fitness, wellbeing, and welcoming people into the fold of the local skate community.

This setting will create a jobs opportunity for those looking to work in the industry as well as work experience and apprenticeship options for young people.

In an ideal scenario, this would be built in an existing, empty building, a warehouse in Waltham Forest within easy access to public transport.

It would be a supervised, safe and controlled place where people can enjoy the activities and we would also be looking at organising demonstrations, competitions, events, and lessons throughout the year.

We are looking for support from the local council and commercial partners to find a location and to back the project, but then will be raising the money required through fundraising events, local sponsorship and grants.

We plan to stride towards creating a culture that our young people can believe in so that they can pass the torch to future generations.

REQUEST:

We require a site of at least 5000 sqf for the proposed activities. We have the motivation, a very driven community and some of the necessary tools but really need support from everyone to make this happen. Please sign this petition, share with your friends, family and networks.

We started this petition because…

EVERYONE on BOARDS is an exciting community program to inspire and empower young people and families through skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing.

Throughout this past summer, we have been hosting free skateboarding meetups in Lloyd Skate Park for young people and we discovered how important social interaction is for the young generation, especially post-lockdown, how amazing it is when young people are learning from each other. Our youngster deserves the opportunity to show that they are more than the stereotypes and labels. Help us create the future.
