Walmart, please ban battery cages for Chile

Walmart, please ban battery cages for Chile
The Issue
Hens are social beings with dazzling cognitive skills who love to choose places for nesting, scratching the floor, and dustbathing. They have hierarchized social structures and their intelligence can be compared with a 2-year-old human child. Unfortunately, all of those behaviors are limited due to one of the most brutal systems in animal agriculture—battery cages—which lead to stressful and painful lives filled with suffering. Walmart is still refusing to ban these cruel cages in Chile.
This system, banned in many states in the U.S. and across the European Union, condemns hens to spend their whole lives in small cages. Overcrowding inside cages causes hens painful injuries in their legs, osteoporotic fractures, and stress-related cannibalism throughout their short lives. Hens are forced to live an endless horror story.
Walmart is one of the most popular supermarket chains to consumers and the biggest retailer in the world, but, sadly, the company hasn’t yet banned the battery cages from its supply chains in Chile. The extreme cruelty depicted in this method opposes their sustainability and social engagement policies.
Many other companies such as Unilever, Nestlé, and Pepsico have already banned cages from their supply chains. Other important supermarket chains like Cencosud Chile, Carrefour Argentina, and even Walmart in the U.S. and Brazil have announced cage-free policies.
Things cannot go on like this. Please take action! Sign and share this petition to ask Walmart to ban battery cages from their supply chains in Chile. Let’s put an end to this horror story.
Please remember: the best way to protect animals is not to eat them.
