Walmart Canada is beginning to react to intense criticism of its abrupt decision to end its participation in a Quebec program providing job training for people with intellectual disabilities, but the corporate giant refuses to say why they ended participation in the program and is offering only vague statements about "welcoming participants back." Let's keep up the pressure until they articulate a clear plan to support job integration and training on an ongoing basis. Meanwhile, we need support the employers in our communities who ARE standing up and making a difference. When you see an employee with an intellectual disability at work in a store, restaurant, or tourist attraction, thank the business owner! Better yet, point this out in a Yelp, Google, or TripAdvisor review of the establishment to let everyone know that we support these businesses!
