Since October 7, over 3700 Palestinians have lost their lives to the rampant destruction that the Israeli government has caused in their land. Tens of thousands of the local population have been injured. On October 12, Israeli forces ordered 1.1 million Palestinians in North Gaza to move South amidst the onslaught of their deadly airstrikes, and further continued attacking during the relocation. Occurring against the backdrop of an Israeli blockade that has been put in place since 2007, this series of events has been part of the Israeli government’s “Collective Punishment” for the Hamas militant group’s retaliatory action against the occupying force.
The Israeli military’s violence has killed newborns, children and a significant proportion of a population that is 65% under the age of 25. Gaza is now ground zero to a horrific humanitarian crisis and Israeli forces continue to attack Palestinians in cold blood, intensifying the suffering of a local population that has already been suffering for over 7 decades.
Fuel, water and other vital resources have been cut off, and safe zones are scarce in number. In violation of UN code, Israeli forces are using white phosphorus on civilians. This is one war crime among many that are in violation of international humanitarian law, and the civilians of Gaza bear its brunt—- children, women, men and frontline workers. Medical facilities and key infrastructure have been targeted, and the occupying force— the Israeli government— shows no signs of slowing down.
Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has accused Hamas of using Palestinian civilians as a “human shield” to excuse his indiscriminate bombings of Gaza’s citizens.Citing Hamas’ attack on Israeli civilians as the reason for their violence, Israeli forces have dropped bombs on densely occupied civilian territory; and continue to do so.
This is an unmistakable case of Genocide. Palestine is enduring a process of Ethnic Cleansing and blatant Apartheid, all happening on the global stage. Regrettably, countries such as the USA take no action to halt it and persist in supporting Israel with arms and weaponry.
With around over a million internally displaced persons in various locations, Israel's actions have time and time again violated international law.
Those who heeded the Israeli evacuation order now face dire circumstances in Southern Gaza, with limited shelter that remains susceptible to missile and bomb attacks. They are deprived of basic necessities and critical medical supplies. This dire situation has forced doctors to perform surgeries in the streets without basic medical equipment like anaesthesia, using torch lights from their phones in the absence of electricity. With water, fuel & electricity cut off, and a severe lack of food resources, the crisis has become dire, and calls for an empathetic and determined response from the international community to address this grave humanitarian catastrophe.
