Hello everyone! First of all, Wow! Well over 100 signatures in over a day! Thanks to everyone who signed and shared. The support is amazing and it’s great to know we can be here for each other. I’m checking in to provide an update on the next steps for us. We’ve gathered a lot of helpful information and feedback, along with updates from a team member working on the numbers. I wanted to cover some key topics and focus areas moving forward.

Unionizing

This wasn’t the original goal of our petition. While some have suggested it, I don’t believe unionizing is the answer. After researching, especially in the context of Walgreens’ current financial situation, it seems impractical.

Hours/Budget

Simply stating “we need more hours” might not be taken seriously. Walgreens knows we’re struggling with our current hours, and this is an ongoing issue, not just a weekly one. Some stores aren’t closing early or on weekends, putting additional strain on their staff without extra help.

Pay Increase

I understand that starting pay varies by location and state, but it’s frustrating to hear about colleagues making just over $20 an hour for such demanding work. They need to recognize that our efforts are worth more. The recent raises have been inadequate.

Pledge

I believe a pledge sent to our district managers will be more effective than any letter. Instead of a generic plea, we should assert that we will only work the job of one person. Until we receive the support and benefits we deserve, we will not overexert ourselves for their benefit. Once they realize that we are fully aware of how overworked and poorly treated we are, maybe they will finally take notice. I understand this approach has been attempted before, but all we can do is continue to strive for change.

Burnout is a real issue, and we haven’t even reached vaccine season yet. Any feedback is more than welcome!
