The Wake County Public School board has approved a plan for reopening schools in the Fall that will be detrimental to the health and well-being of our children and their teachers. They are giving parents 2 options: 1) 100% online "Virtual Academy" and 2) a rotating option with 1 week in class, followed by 2 weeks of remote learning. The first option is wonderful for those who are able to do it, and those that are in high-risk categories or are just not comfortable sending their kids in person. However, the 2nd option makes absolutely no sense logistically or medically. How can any single parent household or 2 working parents household manage this? The answer - they CAN NOT! The kids will end up MORE exposed because they will be attending camps, day cares, babysitters, grandparents, etc during their two weeks off! They would be better off being exposed 100% of the time to the same 20-30 kids. The American Academy of Pediatrics is also recommending schools reopen IN-PERSON! This petition is to appeal to the board's common sense and provide the option of 100% in-person. [note: This would apply only if Gov. Cooper approves NC for reopening with his "Option A".]
