Waive Importation Tax on Spike Prime and LEGO Education Kits in India

The Issue

The Lightning Bots are a FIRST Lego League team from Illinois, USA and we want to get more students involved in the FIRST programs.

We are working with the LEGO Education partners in India and the Office of Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, New Delhi, India to help waive the 60% import tax for the Spike Prime kits and FLL kits, so students can afford the program.

The last FLL Challenge event in India was in 2020. Please sign the petition and share the petition to help support this effort and help restart FLL in India.

The high importation tax on Spike Prime and LEGO education kits is a significant barrier to the expansion of the First Lego League (FLL) in India. These educational tools are crucial for fostering creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and STEM skills among students. However, their high cost due to import taxes makes them inaccessible for many schools and students across the country. According to a 2018 report by UNESCO, enhancing access to quality STEM education is vital for developing countries like India where there's a growing demand for STEM professionals (source: UNESCO). By waiving this import tax, we can make these valuable learning resources more affordable, thereby promoting equal opportunities in STEM education for all Indian students. We urge the Indian government to consider this proposal seriously as it directly impacts our future generation's skills development and career prospects in an increasingly digital world economy. Please sign this petition if you support making FLL more accessible for students in India by reducing financial barriers.
