Some time back, you signed our Save our Little Penguins Petition on the Change.Org free platform. To this day, the WA government continues to ignore the plight of our penguins whose population is still being decimated with now only 97 penguins left
Since first signing, we have managed to raise funds to support having a much more effective paid petition on the Do Gooder platform, like the one the big environmental groups (like Greenpeace) use.
This is powerful because with our NEW petition platform, when you sign it, an email goes directly to the responsible politicians & decision makers.

BACKGROUND
The Penguin Island colony has dropped by about 95% from 2007 to 2024, mainly due to climate change, watercraft strikes, and tourism. Research shows that since 2017, 32% of penguin deaths were caused by watercraft injuries. In 2014, an audit found no funding for regular patrols or enforcement of marine park rules, with numbers falling from 800 penguins then to only 97 now. Little penguins are nearly extinct in Rockingham, and other species face threats. The state government is not doing enough to protect local wildlife and habitats.
We are calling for Penguin Emergency Actions to prevent the extinction of the Penguin Island Little Penguin colony by:
- Closing Penguin Island to the public for at least two years to allow undisturbed penguin breeding and recovery.
- Providing resources for on-water speed limit enforcement in Shoalwater Bay Special Purpose Zone (wildlife conservation) during weekends and public holidays from November to April.
- Funding and implementing a targeted Little Penguin Conservation Plan to halt decline and aid colony recovery.
