🐣😭🐣 Can you believe it❓️

The Cook government are back with yet more building works. This time, during penguin nesting where every single breeding attempt matters more than ever before❗️

📣 WA Environment Minister Reece Whitby, is yet again going against the expert scientist's advice and is planning more building works on Penguin Island during critical breeding and nesting period next month.

With now only 114 penguins left due to recklessness mismanagement and continuously ignoring the scientists for the last decade, they are continuing to drive this colony to extinction

Construction of a new visitor information hub is and scheduled for construction between mid-August 2024 and the end of September 2024 and coincides with the peak penguin breeding.

⚠️ This poses a significant risk to the vulnerable population. At this point every single breeding attempt matters!

The scientists have advised Minister Whitby that construction should commence no sooner than mid-January 2025 and be completed by the end of February 2025 to avoid impacting the breeding population.

❌️ Again, the Minister is ignoring the scientist’s advice.

With only 114 penguins remaining every single breeding attempt matters. Can you imagine having building works going on around you while trying to nest?

Meet outside Reece Whitby MP Baldivis Electorate Office. Tuesday 23 July 10am.
Please dress up as a penguin in either all black/white or in a penguin costume.

We will rally there, and then do a silent penguin march through the nearby shopping precinct offering penguin information flyers to puzzled shoppers.

Voters in Baldivis need to know what's happening to our precious penguin colony under the Roger Cook government

We have spare penguin costumes available to borrow but please arrive early around 9:30 am to arrange.

Right now, with only 114 penguins left, down from 2000 in 2007, every single penguin counts. Please bring your friends!

Yours for the penguins
